Do You Use Alt Text In Your Images And Caption Your Videos
I understand the importance of making social media content accessible and I am increasingly mindful of this when creating content. Where appropriate, I use captions on video content so that information can be understood without sound, and I am working towards being more consistent with accessibility features such as alt text for images. I have already incorporated alt text into a number of images on my website and recognise that accessibility should be considered across all of my digital channels, not just my website. As a small business owner, I am continually learning and improving how I communicate online. I want Clever Little Handies' content to be welcoming and accessible to as many families as possible, and improving my use of accessibility tools is an ongoing part of that.
Outline Your Strategy For Your Facebook Page Why Are You On Facebook
Facebook is an important part of my marketing strategy because it allows me to connect directly with the families, bookshops, libraries and communities that make up the Clever Little Handies audience. My strategy is a mix of useful, relevant and promotional content. I share information about upcoming classes and events, but I also use Facebook to showcase my books, celebrate stockists and milestones, share behind-the-scenes content and give followers an insight into the person behind the business. I use paid promotion strategically when I need to reach a wider or more targeted audience, particularly when promoting classes, while also creating organic content that builds familiarity, trust and community over time. My content is deliberately conversational and authentic rather than relying on constant sales messaging. Facebook also gives me a direct way to communicate with customers through comments and messages and to learn what matters to my audience. Ultimately, I use Facebook to build a recognisable brand, reach new families, nurture existing relationships and turn online attention into real-world results for my classes, books and business.
How Valuable Is Facebook For Your Businessorganisation
Facebook has been hugely valuable to Clever Little Handies and has played an important role in growing the business from a local baby-sign class provider into a wider early-years and publishing brand.
It gives me a direct way to reach families, promote classes and events, showcase my books and connect with customers and stockists. I use a combination of organic content and targeted paid promotion depending on the objective.
For example, one recent promoted post reached over 40,000 people and generated 326 link clicks, demonstrating Facebook's ability to put a small Irish business in front of a much larger audience.
Just as importantly, Facebook allows me to build relationships beyond individual sales. I can share the journey behind the business, communicate directly with families and celebrate milestones with the community that has supported Clever Little Handies.
For a small business without a large marketing budget, that combination of reach, targeting, communication and community makes Facebook extremely valuable.

This post promoted my May online Baby Sign term and achieved 62,000 views, reaching 40,900 people, with 73 interactions and 326 link clicks. I consider it a great post because it combined strong organic-style content with targeted paid promotion to reach parents who were likely to benefit from the service. The messaging focused on a very relatable parenting challenge – being stuck at home with a baby on a rainy day or nap-trapped – and positioned an online class as an easy, welcoming solution. The copy was deliberately conversational and parent-focused, while also giving people everything they needed to take action: dates, time, age range, format, booking information and a clear call to action. The 326 link clicks showed that the post successfully moved people beyond simply viewing the content and encouraged them to find out more. It demonstrated how I use Facebook not just to promote my business, but to understand my audience, speak directly to their everyday experiences and create content that drives meaningful action. https://www.facebook.com/CleverLittleHandies/posts/pfbid0Yk7pJSJKpsu6gPD4kJXCtKqjVfkQSdoCheYG8JkQ7CqUX9AmjDJqemQRZcbvcAWdl

This post promoted my March online Baby Sign term and reached 40,100 views, generating 30 interactions, 178 link clicks and 9 new followers.
I consider this a great post because it demonstrated how targeted social media can generate both immediate interest and longer-term audience growth. Rather than simply advertising a class, the post was designed to speak directly to parents of babies and toddlers, making the benefits of joining an online class clear while keeping the tone warm, approachable and relevant to everyday family life.
The 178 link clicks showed that the content encouraged people to take the next step and find out more about the class, while the 9 new followers were particularly valuable because they represented potential future customers and people choosing to stay connected with Clever Little Handies beyond this particular promotion.
I also strategically used paid promotion to extend the post's reach beyond my existing audience. For me, successful social media isn't just about likes or views; it's about reaching the right people, encouraging action and building an audience that can grow with my business.

This was a spontaneous video update filmed while I was on holiday in Portugal, sharing the latest availability for my upcoming classes – including which sessions were fully booked, which had waiting lists and where spaces were still available.
The video reached 1,100 views and generated 14 interactions and 2 new followers, entirely organically and without any paid advertising.
I consider this a great post because it shows how I use social media as an authentic, two-way communication channel rather than simply as a place to advertise. Instead of creating a polished promotional graphic, I picked up my phone and gave my audience a genuine, real-time update.
It also created natural urgency and social proof. Being able to tell parents that some classes were already full or had waiting lists demonstrated genuine demand, while giving clear information about remaining availability helped people decide whether to book.
Most importantly, it reflects the personality behind Clever Little Handies. As a small business owner, I am the brand, and social media gives me the opportunity to connect directly with the families I work with in a personal and immediate way.

This Reel showcased where my Clever Little Handies books are stocked in Sligo, highlighting the independent bookshops where families can find them locally.
I chose to create this Reel because I wanted to bring my audience into the real-world side of my business. Rather than simply saying that my books are available in bookshops, I could show people exactly where they can find them while also celebrating the independent retailers who support my work.
It also reflects how much Clever Little Handies has grown. What began as a baby-sign class business has developed into a publishing business, with my books now stocked by independent bookshops across Ireland. Social media gives me a way to share that journey with the families who have supported me from the beginning.
I particularly like this type of content because it isn't simply a sales post. It tells a story about a small Irish business, supports other small businesses, and gives my audience something useful and personal. It allows people to see the person and journey behind the brand, rather than just another advertisement.
