This YouTube series was developed through TG4’s Glúin Nua scheme, which supports emerging Irish-language writers and directors in bringing new ideas to the screen. We were immediately drawn to the project because it took the spirit of Wet Hot American Summer and placed it in a very Irish setting: a "Gaeltacht" college in the west of Ireland during the summer of 2026. Writer and director Edel Ní Churraoin had the opportunity to work with experienced comedy writers during the development stage, helping her to strengthen both the script and her skills as a creator. As TG4 continues to build its multiplatform strategy, YouTube is becoming an increasingly important way of reaching younger audiences. Supporting and developing emerging Irish-language talent is also a key priority for us, and this project successfully delivered on both objectives. We were delighted with the finished series and with the audience response. There has been very little investment in BLOCS YouTube content in recent years, so it was particularly encouraging to see strong viewing figures. The four episodes were released over the course of a week and have generated more than 3,600. For us, that represents a real success. More importantly, it shows that there is a genuine appetite among young audiences for original Irish-language drama when it is made for the platforms they use every day.
