Outline Your Instastrategy - Why Is Instagram For You
BLOC TG4 is TG4's youth digital brand, dedicated to creating fresh, innovative and engaging Irish-language content for audiences aged 18-30. Operating across different platforms including Instagram, BLOC provides a space for young creators to tell authentic stories, tackle contemporary issues and connect with audiences in ways that are relevant, accessible and entertaining.
The brand encourages creativity, experimentation and a willingness to explore topics that may be underrepresented in traditional media. Instagram is our strongest platform and the content we create there is central to the BLOC identity. We actively encourage young Irish speakers and Irish-language enthusiasts to create content with us through Instagram takeovers, vlogs, vox pops and other social-first formats.
We also work closely with emerging production companies, which is particularly important at a time when the industry is increasingly adapting to multi-platform strategies. Maximising the value of content is a key part of our approach. We regularly repurpose long-form YouTube content into short-form vertical videos for social media, often achieving significant reach and engagement with new audiences.
The majority of our content is entertaining, reactive and socially driven, while remaining rooted in the Irish language. Most importantly, it is content made by young people.
How Can You Measure Impact To The Bizorg
BLOC's Instagram presence is extremely important to TG4 and has become a key part of how the broadcaster engages with younger audiences. For the past five years, much of BLOC's content has been commissioned from emerging independent production companies, providing valuable opportunities for new talent while delivering significant benefits for TG4. Many of our content creators and interns are now presenting linear TG4 programmes.
As TG4 continues to develop its multiplatform strategy, the connection between broadcast, digital and social content will become increasingly important. BLOC serves as an excellent training ground for production companies, allowing them to develop skills in short-form storytelling, audience engagement and digital content creation while working closely with experienced editors and commissioners.
The platform encourages creativity, innovation and experimentation, giving creators the freedom to tell stories in fresh and engaging ways. It also helps ensure that TG4 maintains a strong and distinctive presence among Ireland's media brands, delivering high-quality, impactful content on relatively modest budgets. Through BLOC, TG4 not only supports the next generation of content creators but also strengthens the future of Irish-language media in an increasingly digital landscape.

This piece came about entirely by coincidence. I was in Spiddal one day and, as I was leaving a shop, I spotted Becky. Having followed her journey online, I immediately introduced myself and we struck up a conversation. That chance encounter ultimately led to us organising a shoot with her.
At the time, Becky was skateboarding the length of the Wild Atlantic Way to raise awareness of suicide and to fundraise for the Samaritans. It was an inspiring story of determination, resilience and community support, and one we felt deserved to reach a wider audience.
As Becky was not an Irish speaker, we had to be creative in how we told the story for a BLOC audience. Séadna, my intern, provided the Irish-language voiceover, guiding viewers through Becky's journey and adding context to her remarkable achievement. The result was an authentic and engaging piece of content that allowed us to share an important story through the Irish language while remaining true to Becky's own voice and experience.

Sa Leaba le Blá was a bold and engaging Irish-language sex education entertainment series for BLOC TG4. Presented by comedian Bláithín Dé Búrca, the series tackled topics surrounding sex, relationships, consent and sexual wellbeing with honesty, humour and sensitivity. Aimed at young adults, it created a safe and accessible space for conversations that are often absent from Irish-language media, combining practical information with entertaining social-first storytelling. As part of TG4's youth brand, BLOC, the series reflected the realities, questions and experiences of a generation navigating sexuality in an increasingly online world.
